Look Back Fondly, No Matter What
Finding your old work cringeworthy is a good thing. It’s what you should hope for, honestly. There’s no more sure sign that you’ve made progress than looking back and seeing all the ways you’ve improved. Such is the case here, where I can clearly see how much differently I would shoot this today, and how much better I could make it.
Perhaps you’ll get a feel for what I mean when you get down to the full gallery at the bottom. For now, let’s dive into a few images that I actually still like from this session.
Makings of the Artist
Among all these images that I am a little embarrassed to present, there are those were you can see my style developing and shining through. The early formation of my love for depth and shadow, and shafts of light.
When the brought out a large tray of dishes, they set it down on legs behind me, just in front of the window. I turned around and took it in, and ah, there it was.
The light I love.
I asked them to pause so I could shoot it right there, in all its perfectly illuminated glory.
